IN THE COMPOSER’S OWN WORDS

“I love to cook. I love to eat other people's food as well. And to me, the act of cooking, with its blending of spices and ingredients is a lot like creating music Oneis being invited into world created by someone, whether it be a world of tastes or of sounds. Some speak of a concert as being a feast for the ears. Spice Mixes 1 and 2 were originally composed for Jim Pugliese and myself as a part of the Rétes Collaboration Series at Spectrum NYC in 2013. Since that time, I expanded it for quartet. This piece provides the players with the ingredients. It is up to them to make the dish.”

–Eleonor Sandresky, 2013
