Parthenia will premier this extended work for viols and Baroque harp at Picture Ray Studios, on Manhattan’s west side. We’ve been working on putting this together since August. The piece is composed in six movements, five of which are based on individual performer’s reading of a poem by John Donne.  The sixth movement is the Prelude. The piece incorporates choreographed movement as a composed element of the piece, notated in the score, which Parthenia performs while playing.

With guest harpist Christa Patton, the group will perform early works for viols and baroque harp, and feature a world premiere by New York composer Eleonor Sandresky.

Composer/performance artist Eleonor Sandresky brings Parthenia into new territory with her commissioned premiere using choreographed movement for the consort, presented alongside dance suites and fantasias from the Renaissance by Henry Purcell, Orlando Gibbons, Alfonso Ferrabosco, Carol Farina, Giovanni Legrenzi, Nicolò Corradini and Giovanni Battista Vitali.
