Opening (2015)

IN THE COMPOSER’S OWN WORDS

When the New York City Classical Guitar Society approached me about writing a piece for them, I was simultaneously delighted and terrified. As a kid, I studied guitar briefly, but that was a long time ago. So it was exciting to explore the world of an instrument that I love but had little practical knowledge of. I wanted to compose something that would be fun to play and hear, and that would capture the wonderful natural resonance of the instrument. The result is Opening, 2015.
