IN THE COMPOSER’S OWN WORDS

Suite for String Quartet was composed in 2002–03 and later revised in 2006 for its world premiere by ETHEL String Quartet on the Music With a View series in New York City.

”The idea for this piece came through my love of poetry. Each movement is inspired by a different poem, which are not invoked in any particular way, as they would be in later works, but merely as a point of departure. The poems, by May Sarton, Rumi and others, are known only to the players to help them understand my intention in the music, but that is all.”

–Eleonor Sandresky, 2006
